1944 - USS Cusk Year by Year History Crewmembers, Pictures and Memorabilia The keel is laid as the Cusk is born The keel of the Cusk was laid by the Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut on May 25, 1944. Later that same year, the keel was moved to another dry dock and "re-laid" in the same shipyard. The Cusk was constructed with many of the new Tench Class boat upgrades such as the new high tensile steel hull, relocating her #1 and #7 Main Ballast Tanks and several other improvements in propulsion and other equipment.
